About the Role

BY Group delivers a diverse range of commercial, civil & residential construction across government, corporate, and community sectors, led by industry professionals with qualifications in construction management, civil works, carpentry and HSE management. BY Group is headquartered in Sydney with large projects across Australia, New Zealand & the Pacific.

To support the continued growth of the business, we have an exciting opportunity for a full-time experienced financial accountant to join the team in Sydney. You will be working closely with the Finance Manager along with the owners of the business, with full access and support from William Buck (our external accountants).

Key Responsibilities

• Delivering accurate and timely monthly management reports and variance analysis.
• Assist with budgeting, cashflow forecasting and variance analysis across multiple construction projects.
• Manage day‑to‑day accounting activities, with support from a team of two staff located in the Philippines.
• Support project teams with cost control, job costing, financial reconciliation and monitoring of project margins.
• Ensure compliance with ATO requirements, BAS, PAYG, payroll tax and other statutory obligations.
• Working with William Buck to improve processes and bring various functions back in house.
• Contribute to a culture of accountability, inclusiveness, and continuous improvement.

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, commerce or related field with a minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar role.
• Experience in payroll.
• High attention to detail, numerical accuracy, strong time management, effective communication and collaboration with finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and tax compliance.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Experience with Xero and Procore would highly regarded, although not essential.
• Construction industry experience preferred, but not essential.
