William Buck is the perfect place to start, grow or take your career to the next level. Be part of a dynamic team that prides itself on delivering advice that makes a difference.

Description of the role: We’re seeking a recent or soon to be Graduate to join our team. In this role you’ll help clients navigate Australia’s complex tax landscape with confidence. You’ll provide tailored solutions to minimise risk, maximise opportunities, and ensure compliance in a dynamic and evolving field.

We are thrilled to be ranked as Prosple’s #1 Graduate Employer in the Accounting and Advisory sector for 2025! Additionally, we are proud to have placed in the Top 100 Graduate Employers list for 2025.

What makes you ‘just right’:

  • Degree in Law and/or Commerce/Business/Economics; tax or business law subjects highly regarded.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills; you enjoy interpreting complex law and developing clear solutions.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and accountable for deadlines and quality.
  • Australian citizen strongly preferred (due to government client work); PR/work-rights considered.

What your day might look like:

  • Turn law into advice — interpret legislation, cases and ATO rulings; draft client-ready advice, memos and emails.
  • Own workstreams — build outcome comparisons (CGT, Div 7A, distributions, roll-overs) and present recommendations.
  • Lead ATO engagement — prepare ruling requests, objections and meeting packs; shape strategy and correspondence for reviews/audits.
  • Run controversy matters — assemble evidence, draft submissions/briefs, and support cases in the ART or court.
  • Shape transactions — design step plans for restructures, succession and funding.
  • Collaborate nationally — work with our specialist partner group on diverse, complex matters.
  • Develop fast — act on feedback, mentor undergrads, and contribute to BD and thought pieces.

Why join our team?:

  • Advisory from day one — your analysis will directly shape decisions and deals.
  • Direct partner time — hands-on coaching in Canberra from senior staff and partners with deep tax policy, controversy and advisory experience.
  • Serious training — monthly national technical training, file-based coaching, and support for your CA/CTA (plus PLT support for law grads).
  • Merit-based progression — clear, performance-driven career steps without artificial bottlenecks.
  • Great team vibes — a friendly, supportive and social team where collaboration is a part of our DNA.
  • Balanced expectations — a supportive culture with sensible flexibility when you need it.

What makes us ‘just right’:

  • Open door policy – 1 on 1 access to Partners & Managers
  • You will be included in client meetings, we believe client exposure is essential to your learning and development!
  • Clear career pathways and focused learning and development programs - national Graduate College, monthly tax training, CA support and virtual study sessions
  • You will be part of a collaborative, social and inclusive culture - we have lots of social events, firm drinks, and regular colleague networking opportunities
  • We are Accountants, but we aren't boring! You will learn a lot, you will be challenged, and you will have a lot of fun

Additional Benefits

  • Flexible working to help you balance work and personal responsibilities.
  • Career enhancement and development opportunities.
  • Free company provided Salary Continuance insurance
  • Bi-Monthly Colleague Lunch
  • Dress for your day policy
  • Social Club events
  • Working in a vibrant and collegiate culture where you as a person, and your contribution is valued
